A row of shops, one of which has the name GIOVANNI, in reverse, over its door, leads to a square, or campo in which the sunlight is tempered by awnings and large umbrellas. The name of the street, CALLE PESCHERIA, is to be read on a placard on the wall over one of the fish shops. The sides of the projecting houses over the awnings are shaded with horizontal lines only. There is a tall white space on the right side of the closed shutter within the window frame under the balcony from which a woman looks out. The shadow on the ground is interrupted by a broad white patch, slanting to the left, which extends to 89 mm. from the right end of the plate.
