Zoe Keramea was primarily engaged in metal engraving and developed a technique she calls "Zoitypia" She describes it as an engraving technique that involves transferring images from a processed metal plate to paper using a fabric matrix, either directly or by re-inking onto a second metal plate. This process gives the print a much wider range of tonal effects. The matrix can create a sharp relief either from its printed side or its non-printed side, or both can be used in combination. In the case of the artwork “Figure in frame search”, she uses an everyday object, a ribbon, and captures the variations that can arise when it curves, twists, and intertwines. Drawing detail, realistic disposition and precision in the description dominate in this simple composition.
