Echinus brevispinosus

Echinus brevispinosus is a species of sea urchins widespread on the seaside shores, swept by the waves, from the western Indo-Pacific area, especially on the shores of Hawaii. It usually lives on substrates completely exposed to the waves, so the upper surface of the body is a mosaic of small polygonal plates made up of modified thorns to form a kind of smooth shield. The copy comes from the collection of Carlo Ferreratti, director of the University Museum (1860-1867).
