Stylish pavement mosaic (calçada-mosaico) in Aveiro, Portugal, a city known for its Art Nouveau architecture. Portuguese pavement, i.e. decorative pavements with patterns, laid out of black and white basalt and limestone stones. This form of pavement paving was used in Portugal in the early 1840s. It is visible on many sidewalks and city squares.
