The hairband (cinta in Spanish) is woven with cotton in a hip loom. The weaving technique used is upholstery or tapisserie (tapiceria in Spanish). In this technique, threads of different colors of warp and weft are interwoven to form figures. \To the hairband later fringes and pompoms were added. \A hairband is used exclusively by women to decorate the hair and head. This particular hairband is intended for both daily and ceremonial use. The hairband is decorated with different motifs of human figures and geometric motifs in different colors. \Zunil is located in the department of Quetzaltenango. In 2007, Zunil had a population of 12,070, of which 10,907 belong to the K´iche culture. \Zunil has its origins in the pre-colonial period, when it was still located on the banks of the Samalá River. The word Zunil comes from the Quiché language, and means 'sound of the tecomates (a cup or glass made of earthenware)'. According to official records, the municipality of Zunil came into existence on June 11, 1,886.‖ The main source of income in Zunil today is agriculture. Furthermore, Zunil supplies shoes for trade.
