Bellows, George, 1882-1925 · 1923
Y.M.C.A. Swimming-pool. (Bellows) / Almost twenty years after his arrival in New York Bellows recalled this scene from his stay at the YMCA. He did two lithographs on similar themes in 1916 and 1917, "The Shower Bath" (M. 45) and "Business-Men's Class" (M. 20). At age forty-one, and a bit paunchy himself, he still saw the humor in the daily effort to develop and/or maintain a beautiful body. (Mason)
