Brontosaurus Jurassic Period The best-known dinosaur, the brontosaurus was called the "Thunder Lizard" on the assumption that his 20 tons shook the ground when he walked. A North American resident as recently as 135 million years ago, his neck and much of his 80-foot length permitted him to feed on underwater plant life. The brontosaurus is the symbol of the Sinclair Refining Company, sponsor of the 40-city tour of the nation.
