In the middle, in front of the window, is an embroidery loom. Two girls are seated on each side of the loom and lean over their work. The loom is tilted toward the girl on the right and she seems to seize the needle which has just crossed the fabric. She has two pendent curls on each side of her face. The girl on the left, whose face cannot be seen, is working in a similar fashion. A thick curtain is stretched across the lower panes of the window and the girls are only visible from the waist upwards. (From a drawing dated May, 1855, belonging to Mr. Heseltine of London)
