Boy taken in connection with step-mother's slaying

Baltimore, Md.....Here is a closeup of James H. Smiley, 15, object of a nationwide search, photographed after he had been taken in a Baltimore police station today, April 27th after he had entered the station for a night's lodging. Smiley was sought for questioning in connection with the slaying of his socially-prominent step-mother, Mrs. Edna L. Smiley of Big Rapids, Michigan. The boy is said to have admitted to police that he shot his step-mother with a .22 caliber rifle after she had scolded him.
