"Booger" masks
[ca. 1960–1979]
Were hand-carved for use by ancient Cherokees to frighten away evil spirits. Cherokee braves of the authentic re-created ancient (1650-1700 AD) village at Tsa-La-Gi demonstrate three versions of these masks. 4 miles S. and 1 mile E. of Tahlequah, Okla.
