Attorney to make last-minute appeal for doomed prisoner

Dunn, N.C....Tom Wood, Jr., (left) who has been sentenced to die in the gas chamber on November 5th for the slaying of his wife, Mrs. Ruby Powers Wood, is shown conferring with his attorney Everette L. Doffermyre. The attorney is trying to have Wood's sentence commuted to life imprisonment and says he will witness the execution if commutation pleas are turned down. The thirty-year-old textile worker was tried on charges of stabbing his wife forty-eight times and leaving her in a creek to die.
