Betsy Hits New Orleans -- Hurricane Betsy slammed into New Orleans and the neighboring resorts of Mississippi’s plush Gulf coast tonight. More than 10,000 homes were without electricity as power lines popped and trees snapped under Betsy’s 150-miles-per-hour winds. Surging tides of six to twelve feet hammered the Gulf coast from the Mississippi River’s mouth eastward to Pensacola, Fla.
