Police officials announced today that George Lettrich, jr. 36. of cicero, ill. (shown (left) handcuffed to chief of police ralph white) has signed a formal confession of the 1948 slaying of 10-year-old Roberta Rinearson, whose ravished body was found along a lonely road near Elmhurst, a Chicago suburb. discovery of the child's body touched off an investigation seldom matched in Chicago crime annals. more than 3,000 persons were questioned by detectives in an effort to find the killer. state's attorney john s. Boyle said he was "satisfied" that Lettrich's confession was authentic and ordered an immediate re-enactment of the crime. Lettrich, father of three children was arrested 10 days ago for questioning in connection with the molesting of two young girls and then was grilled about the brutal Rinearson slaying.
