Arthur Darwin bails out the boat which is his only means of contact with the outside world. His world is Posseum Key, a small Island in Everglades National Park, Fla., reachable only by boat. Darwin leaves the island, where he lives alone, only once a month to visit Everglades City in the skiff with its five horse power engine: it takes about two hours each way. He's lived on the island for 26 years now, and decided to settle not "looking to get away from the world." He just liked it there.
