An old man seated, drawn by firelight ; both hands rest on his right knee and he looks down towards the left. He wears a cap and a coat buttoned up to the chin ; the legs are unfinished. The background behind the head and shoulders is heavily shaded. The right eyelid, the brow above the nose and right eye, and the side of the nose darkened with dry point.
