The cubicles at Gallimard, Camus' Paris publishers, struck me as an inappropriate setting; his small library, at home, was where he belonged. The Algerian-born novelist, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1957, was strangely prescient about the potential growth of Arab nationalism (Karsh, 1983).
