Alaskan Forests Contribute to the War Effort. One million board feet of Sitka spruce logs which will be used in the manufacture of trainer planes and gliders for America's war effort, and which will reach other United Nations airplane factories via lend-lease shipment, is pictured in this huge log boom arriving at a mill in Anacortes, Washington, on Puget Sound. It came in tow of a single tug all the way from Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. Called a "Crib boom," it's one of the largest to come such a long distance by water. What happens to the log boom is shown in the accompanying pictures.
