Fantin-Latour, Henri, 1836-1904 · [ca. 1877]
On the water's edge, in the foreground, a figure of a young woman standing, bare (except for a cloth that hangs from her shoulder and hides her right arm). She faces almost forward, with her hair tied and hand resting on the bank. Further, to the right, another bathing woman is seated. She is seen in profile, naked as far as the hips, and her bare left leg is crossed over her right leg, which is draped. There are trees on the right and foliage on the left; in the middle, forming the bottom of the painting, there is a large ground rising on a steep slope, crowned with a forest.
