Sheriff George M. Hartshell, (left) said Harold J. Carlson, 41, Tagus, N.D., whose arm he holds, signed a statement yesterday admitting he killed his 5-months-old son, Stephen Carlson, by beating the child's head on a sidewalk after an argument with his estranged wife. Carlson was charged with murder. He is shown bloodstained from a wound the sheriff said was self-inflicted.
