700 Apply for Four Jobs-- More than 700 applicants wait to apply for four available jobs as meter readers at the West San Fernando Valley office of the Southern California Gas Co. yesterday. The jobs pay $133 a week. The applicants were responding to a newspaper advertisement. California's unemployment rate-- 7 per cent-- is more than 50 pre cent above that of a year ago. The gas company office is in a suburban section of Los Angeles.
