The so-called bibliophile Jacob, an old man with white hair, a velvet cap on his head, in a dressing-gown, leans on the corner of a table, holding in his hand the letter that Alcibiades gave him. The latter on the right, in a black coat and white tie, bows respectfully before a character with a mustache and goatee, with a fierce air, playing the part of George Sand. The latter, on the left, is wearing a short frock coat, white pantyhose, Souvarof boots.
