Lazarof was commissioned to write "Necompe" for the New England Conservatory of Music Percussion Ensemble. The work consists of 8 total soundscapres or short movements. When looking at the drafts, Soundscapes 4-6 are not included in the full manuscript, rather they are sketched out separately. The composition is written for a total of 43 instruments. Similar to Varese's "Ionsation", Lazarof explores sound by using non-pitched percussion instruments.
