The original dedication to James Caulfield, 1st Earl of Charlemont, was deleted almost at once after publication in 1756 and was substituted by the phrase "Utilitati Publicae." This was subsequently replaced in 1784 when Francesco dedicated the second edition to Gustav III of Sweden.
