In the foreground, near a high scaffolding at the extreme right, there is a tall pole, at the foot of which a man is standing. Across a wide reach of water are numerous vessels at anchor and lines of distant shipping. There are a few clouds in the sky. The butterfly, in outline, is halfway up the plate, near the left edge.
