The lower part of the column of San Marco, rising from steps on which people are seated, appears in the foreground at the left, obstructing the view of the cathedral, of which glimpses are given. The clock tower, amid surrounding buildings, is seen beyond an open broad space in which are many people, some walking, some seated at tables, and some feeding doves. Other doves are in flight. There are clouds in the sky. The butterfly, shaded, is on the column near the base.
