Whistler, James McNeill, 1834-1903 · [1887]
Beyond an open space, the elaborately decorated façade of a narrow palace, with long windows closely placed, appears between two palaces, less fully indicated, on each of which are sculptured figures. A carriage waits in front of the palace at the left. In the open space are a number of people, some standing and some seated, and there are flowerpots and trestles and other signs of a flower market. The butterfly, in outline, is above the middle of the plate, at the left.
