Whistler, James McNeill, 1834-1903 · [1876–1877]
At the right several barges, two with furled sails, lie alongside the Chelsea embankment, back from which stands a row of picturesque old houses. Toward the left, near the river edge, is a clump of trees. Farther away is a bridge, and beyond that a church tower surmounted by a flagpole. The butterfly, shaded, is above the middle of the plate, near the left edge.
