A lady wearing a hat stands facing to the right, leaning against a cabinet by a window and reading a paper. The skirt of the gown is clearly outlined, and there are cross-lines behind it, suggesting a shadow. There is elaborate work on the bosom and on the hat; horizontal lines at upper left, and other touches here and there.
