And when challenges arise, we meet them head-on.', Wednesday night the Governor spent time describing the state of the nation by way of explaining the State of the State. Jim Doyle talks about the growing economic problems in Washington. State of the State Commentary, The Governor went on to spell out his strategies for a strong Wisconsin. Strategies that include capital gains exemptions, jump-starting renewable energies and reducing healthcare costs. Dan Schooff shares his opinion on these topics. Ballast Water, Among the threats to the quality of the Great Lakes is something called ballast water, or more specifically the bio-stowaways that travel from other waters in the holds of freighters and other boats. It's a problem that many experts agree is going to get worse before it gets better. "In Wisconsin" producer Andy Soth has the story. Virtual schooling may live to see another day. Several state lawmakers announced this week they will introduce compromise legislation to keep the online schools open. In December an appeals court ruled that virtual schools were prohibited under Wisconsin education statutes. The new legislation expected to be taken up in both houses next week would legalize the current operation of virtual schools, but add some new rules, including a provision that holds all virtual school contracts subject to open records laws.
