President Wilbert E. Locklin, Janie Flynn and S. Prestley Blake

This is a photograph that shows (from left to right) Janie Flynn, S. Prestley Blake, and SC President Wilbert E Locklin at a Baseball Training camp event for Springfield College. They are seated at a table. The exact date is not known, but probably occurred sometime after President Flynn came to Springfield in 1999. Dr. Wilbert E. Locklin (April 2, 1920 – March 4, 2006) was raised in Washington, D.C. He graduated from John Hopkins University in 1942. During World War II, he served on bomber crews and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After his military service, Locklin returned to work at Johns Hopkins. In 1965, Locklin was named president of Springfield College, where he served for twenty years. He was responsible for raising funds and developing strategic plans for Babson Library, Cheney Dining Hall, Fuller Arts Center, Gulick Hall, the Physical Education Complex, Linkletter Natatorium, and the Towne Health Center. He also introduced new academic programs in business, physical therapy, and YMCA studies. Furthermore, he was the driving force in expanding the college's international scope through his development of programs in China, Japan, Hong Kong, and Saudi Arabia. Following his retirement in 1985, Locklin founded Locklin Management Services, which helped local nonprofit organizations with fundraising. This is a born digital item created from a scan of photograph that is not in the collection. Only the digital file was donated. Photograph print was created and placed in phyiscal collection.; Donor claims that the date on the physical item was '94. Donor is not sure that this is the correct date, but Wilbert Locklin would have been '74 and he believes this is what he would've looked like. With Janie Flynn in the picture, though, this puts the date in doubt. The flynn's did not come to Springfield College until 1999.;
