The first nine episodes in the “Heritage” series present the prominent American poet Robert Frost speaking of his philosophies and his writing. The winner of four Pulitzers Prizes in poetry (1924, 1931, 1937, 1943), Frost is also gold Medal of the National Institute of Arts and Letters. In this episode, Robert Frost speaks with a group of friends who question him as members of the audience would like to do. He discusses the weaknesses of poets and authors and the publishing situation in the country. He continues with his general philosophy of understanding poetry as it is affected by our modern life. Mr. Frost discusses freely his feelings on religion, loyalty, world affairs, love science, and poetry. Participants in the program are: Dr. Jonas Salk, developer of the Salk Polio Vaccines; Dr. Lawrence Lee, professor of English at the University of Pittsburgh; Dr. Edwin Peterson, professor of English at the University of Pittsburgh; Sarah Henderson Hay, Pittsburgh poet; and Philip Broughton, Pittsburgh executive.
