Natural Science Division Bulletin (1936-1937)

This Special Bulletin from the Natural Science Division was published in the 1936-1937 academic year by the International YMCA College, now Springfield College. The bulletin starts with a brief historical sketch of the College. Then it describes the undergraduate and graduate studies, organized then in three divisions: The Arts and Science Division, the Natural Science Division, and the Social Science Division, outlining all its majors. Next, the bulletin lists the members of College faculty, and all the natural science division majors with their faculties. Then it describes the leadership of the college on the physical education field, an undergraduate and graduate outline curriculum, the type of men that are desired as students at the school (including “a Christian character”), and the placement examinations (including the freshman week). Afterwards, it describes graduation and curriculum requirements of each major offered: Physical and Health Education, Recreation Education Major, Physical and Biological Science, and Premedical course. Subsequently, the bulletin describes the location and the equipment available to students, the expenses, and a course by course description of the offered curriculum with the requirements of the different majors. The bulletin closes with an overview of the summer school and the academic year calendar. The summer school offered an Olympic study tour for the Berlin 1936 Olympics. The summer school also started offering in 1936 “a number of courses specifically for women”.
