Native American Education: Strategies for Change; Languages

The fifth program, "Languages," welcomes Regis Pecos (Cochiti Pueblo), who explores the ties of native languages and cultures, as well as the need to acquire English. The accompanying video documentary looks at model schools at the Santa Fe Indian School (Santa Fe, New Mexico), the Taos Day School (Taos Pueblo, New Mexico), and Peach Springs Elementary School (Haulapai, Peach Springs, Arizona). Funded by a grant from SERC, Native American Education: Strategies for Change is broadcasted statewide in New Mexico and uplinked nationally as a part of the Satellite Educational Resource Consortium (SERC). Each of the six one-hour programs was a live, studio production with 21 minutes of video roll-ins, shot on location in schools from Alaska to New York.
