Includes report of the corporation by Franklin Carter, receipts and expenditures, principal's report by Caroline A. Yale, courses of study, catalogue of pupils, terms of admission, and Massachusetts Law in Regard to Education of Deaf Mutes. Following Carter's statement that the state's funding for the Clarke School is not charity, the Board of Education increased the funds they provide to 250 dollars per child. The state requires hearing children to attend school but it does not require deaf children to go to school. Carter thinks that this law should be changed, so that parents of deaf children are required to send their children to school. Three boys and five teachers-in-training graduated from the Clarke School this year. Many Clarke School graduates go on to hearing schools: A. Lincoln Fechheimer is now a student at the Ecole des beaux Arts and George H. Buckingham graduated from the Chelsea High School this year. The Convention of American Instructors of the Deaf and the National Education Association met this year. The Clarke Institution is expanding their teacher training program.
