Heckscher State Park is one of the State Parks under the jurisdiction of the Long Island State Park Commission. This park is 50 miles from New York City and is locate don the Great South Bay, south of East Islip. The main attractions at this park are bathing in the Great South Bay, various picnic areas with open fireplaces, tables and benches, baseball fields and children's playgrounds, excellent bridle paths, a stable where horses may be rented, and refreshment stands where foodstuffs and soft drinks may be purchased.
