Teatro Consejo, one of several successful programs at Youth Development Inc., is a unique Albuquerque theatre company that performs throughout New Mexico and the United States. Under the guidance of director and playwright Jose Garcia, Teatro Consejo is comprised of teenagers who are learning new ways to express themselves in a positive and supportive environment. ¡Colores! visits this theatre group during their production of "The Unwanted," a play that captures the hardships and challenges of growing up in the "barrio." "It was important to me not to write a traditional tragedy," says Garcia. "The title of this play is about abandonment... I wanted to make it very real to the issues that we face today."
