Half-length frontal portrait of a woman wearing a bonnet and a white collar. Daguerreotype is in a octagonal (variant) mat with an ornate protector. The daguerreotype case is made of wood and covered in reddish brown leather and is embossed with a Delicate Rose, Variant motif (Rinhart, American miniature case art, plates 123-125). The case has two hook and eye clasps on the right side. In the interior of the case, facing the daguerreotype, is a red velvet pad with a bird and foliage design embossed in the center. Copper plate has not been resilvered. No manufacturer's hallmark on plate. Name and address of daguerreotypist printed on a black strip attached to the bottom of interior of case beneath the daguerreotype. Range of dates for daguerreotype based on Lerow & Co.'s address.
