¡Colores! explores the healing nature of traditional Native American culture. "Natural Connections" is a new program at the Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The program is the brainchild of Dr. Jay Navarro, a clinical psychologist who has observed the ineffectiveness of Western psychological methods in treating drug and alcohol related illnesses among Native Americans. "The program utilizes traditional medicine ways of Native Americans," says Navarro, "in an effort to ally the incidence of drug and alcohol abuse." This segment will portray the "Natural Connections" program by showing some of the traditional methods used by medicine people and interviewing them about the meanings of these rituals and ceremonies. Artist Profile: Donna Beshara is a painter from Las Cruces, New Mexico. She defines her work as abstract expressionism. Drawing her inspiration from nature, she creates paintings that reflect what she calls "inner landscapes." Host: Ester Reyes.
