Santa Fe-based Kiowa artist Teri Greeves’ beadwork comes from a desire to share universal stories. “It is my prayer that everything that I make helps me become a better person, to help my children understand something, to be able to communicate what it is to be a 21st-century native person.” Albuquerque painter and printmaker Karsten Creightney is inspired by the interplay between the natural world and human civilization. Creightney is interviewed by Hakim Bellamy. “I feel like art’s real power is in helping people to think, not telling them what to think.” The ‘Women of New Mexico’ mural, in Albuquerque’s Barelas neighborhood, honors New Mexico’s great women. “I think all these women at some point were told, ’Nah, don’t do that, don’t make that painting, don’t go forward with whatever you’re doing, it’s crazy.’”—Izabelle Fernandez Williams.
