Jim Lehrer hosts a discussion on the current trend toward solar energy for The MacNeil/Lehrer Report. The panel discusses the cost of installing a solar heating system which varies based on location, the importance of finding a reputable company, the extent to which the government will be involved in creating standards, and the future of solar energy in the United States. Two of the panelists represent companies that sell and install solar heating systems; one is part of a large energy company, which has a large cost due to state-of-the-art equipment and the expense of installation, the other company is much smaller the inventor and his son do much of the installation of this system this system is low-tech, allowing it to also be low-cost.
