Phil tells Harry that everything is well for him, and the Allies have now shown the world that the Germans are not invincible. He was reading the casualty list and saw a lot of names he knew either in the list of those killed or wounded, including an old schoolmate of his, Fred Pollard. A relation of Art's wife was given the distinguished service cross, which Phil doesn't think they will ever hear the end of. Jay does not seem to be enjoying army life but Phil thinks he will get used to it eventually. He hopes that Millard got a good deal on the new cow he purchased, and inquires after Aunt Annie's well-being.
