Pike, Phillip N. (Newman), 1895-1953 · April 16, 1918
Phil tells Helen that he noticed the name of her superintendent in the paper as a new arrival in France, so he guesses that he won't be back in Montague for a while. He hasn't heard from Volney or Buster in a while, and mostly only gets letters from Art, Harry, Hazel, and Helen. In Texas he hardly had time to answer his mail, but now he has plenty of time. He's doing police work in a small town near camp, which is much the same as civilian police work, and he's enjoying it. He was recently promoted to sergeant, which shows that his hard work has been appreciated.
