Built for King Henry VIII in the 16th century, this vessel carried more than a thousand tons as well as a vast armament. The vessel served as a structural template for all the naval engineers for the next hundred and fifty years. In the background of the painting is the Mary Rose, another purpose-built warship of Henry’s navy.
