Lou Jones is a Boston-based artist who started his career as a photographer in 1971. Originally pursuing a career as a physicist, studying at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and working one summer at NASA as a literal rocket scientist, Jones pivoted to photography as a way to meld his love of science with his urge to create.<br><br>While Jones started out as a commercial and editorial photographer and has continued to photograph for local, national, and international clients, he has also moved forward on a parallel track with his fine arts work, embracing projects of personal interest. He has proven during his long career that commercial work can be artistic, and that fine art work can be fed and nourished by the skills and knowledge learned in the deadline-intensive commercial arena.<br><br>Lou Jones approaches all his projects by combining a scientist's deep technical knowledge of the medium and its equipment with the artist's empathy and eye for color and form.<br><br>Critical funding to support long-term preservation of and enhanced public access to Boston Public Library collections, including this one, was provided by the <a href="https://www.associatesbpl.org/" target="_blank">Associates of the Boston Public Library</a>.

Milwaukee – It Was A Ball – Milwaukee Braves pitcher Wade Blasingame and third baseman Eddie Mathews pose with the game ball in the dressing room at County Stadium last night after Blasingame’s one-hitter and Mathews’ grand slam home run against the New York Mets. Blasingame beat former Braves pitcher Warren Spahn who was making his first start against his old teammates. Mathews’ homer in the fifth inning was the seventh grand slammer of his career and his 453rd home run.
