Professor Arnold Friedmann, Head of the Department of Textiles Clothing and Environmental Arts, sits in a wheelchair alongside another man also in a wheelchair while three women and a young man look on. He became tenured Professor of Design until his retirement in 1990 as Professor Emeritus. Upon the publication of his Critical Study of Interior Design Education (1968), he became a major moving force in the field of design education and continued designing, lecturing and writing after his retirement.
