Transcript of an interview with longtime Boston resident Olive Knight. The interview was part of the We are Boston: Stories of Hope, Struggle, and Resilience oral history project created in 2018 by poet and Boston artist-in-residence Daniel Johnson. Mrs. Knight discusses growing up in Jamaica; the challenges of moving, including leaving her family behind and missing the food; urban development in Boston neighborhoods and the expense of living in the city; racism and discrimination she has experienced in Boston; her long career as a librarian with the Boston Public Library and the importance of libraries to the community they serve; and the value of cultural institutions like the Museum of Science.
