Transcript of an interview with lifelong Boston resident John Vines. The interview was part of the We are Boston: Stories of Hope, Struggle, and Resilience oral history project created in 2018 by poet and Boston artist-in-residence Daniel Johnson. Vines discusses growing up in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and attending public school during the busing crisis. He also describes his military service at Fort Hood; college experience attending Northeastern University, Roxbury Community College, and the Massage Institute of New England; his many years of volunteer work with the Boston Living Center offering assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS; experiences of racism, living with a disability, and improvements Boston should make in affordable housing and accessibility.
