Regarding her chapter on "The Negro" prepared for a high school text on world history, deeming it "only whole very fair," enclosing thorough remarks thereon, and referring her the book "What is Civilization?" whose second chapter, redacted by Du Bois himself, begins with three things "Africa has given the world...: Beginnings, the Village Unit, and Art in Sculpture and Music."
