"This is a complete set of the six photolithographs that make up the first publication in photolithography. It was printed by Lemercier in Paris after the photogrpahic process on stone of Lemercier, Lerebours, Barriswil, and Davanne. They used Niepce's asphaltum process as applied to lithography. Each image is printed on heavy paper, the size of the images being 23.5 cm x 33.4 cm on 40 cm x 56.8 cm paper. ... This was an extremely difficult process and the collaborators worked on it for nearly two years before getting these reults. The process ... required the use of turpentine ... to dissolve the unaffected asphaltum from the stone. The stones were exposed directly with Le Secq's paper negatives.
