New Mexico’s grand dame of flamenco María Benítez shares her passion for the dance. “It’s the coquettishness, the flirtatiousness. It’s strength, it’s power, it’s mean, it’s angry.” Benítez and her husband, Cecilio Benítez, founded the Spanish Institute for Arts based in Santa Fe, New Mexico to carry on the legacy of Spanish dance and flamenco in American. Exploring place, mid-west printmaker Emily Gray Koehler creates a multi-layered work of art. “I’m making something that I can’t go back and change; it is what it is.” A groundbreaking exhibition, "War/Photography: Images of Armed Conflict and Its Aftermath” explores the experience of war through the lens. “We wanted to show that everybody’s human, that they have these complex personalities. We didn’t want to simplify the story.” The artwork “Levitated Mass” by Michael Heizer is installed at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art with great fanfare. “I did not have any idea what a big deal it would be.”
